MOUNT

a portrait of mont saint-michel, chosen for its energy — a magical place full of mystery, a sacred site for thirteen centuries. the portrait builds on elements of the place, its history, and my own experience of it: birds, fog, and the skull of aubert of avranches, the bishop to whom, as legend tells, the archangel michael appeared three times commanding him to build a church on the mount — ignoring the mission twice, until michael put a finger through his skull. i photographed largely at night and in the early morning, when the presence of the place is felt most intensely, working with reflections, long exposures, and nd filters. the works are presented as objects.
